This project was initially intended to be a collection of demos, recorded with the doors open and the dogs barking; all songs were played on a child size Yamaha. The first interlude features Portuguese sheep bells and my sister, Arabella (Bella Boo) Schelfhout

The second Interlude features a call to prayer recorded in Rabat, Morocco and the voice of Abdul Unisy, of Tabul, Afghanistan. To all those featured: thank you for speaking your truth and allowing me to use your voice.

A special thank you to my grandmother, Ama, for supporting me through the creation of this project and providing me with her wisdom and love.

Continue down this page to learn more about the process, the songs and their creation.

1. BK.SNW

It snowed in Brooklyn last night
All the pavements reflecting light
What an unnatural sight
For eyes accustomed to the night

Muted skyline, soft glow
Good friends above and below
There’s jazz on the rooftops
And muffled sounds of baseline triphop
They dance with each other
And a new sound is born

(Why do I feel so worn/warm)

I woke up on the East Side
6 days 10,000 Miles
The Middle East suits me alright
Percussive tones and Arabic smiles

Now back In the village
Ghosts of dead poets rikashade
Off the pavement where the artists
Still sometimes sit and play
Their passed by girls with handbags
And wanderlust hashtags
Oh nomadic souls do you know
What it’s like not to have a home?
You glorify your love to roam
No home, No home

—-

Oh the bones, of this city
So deep in me, they creek and they groan
Oh my bones are made of poured concrete
Like the pavement underneath my feet
It keeps me oh so strong
She has served so many seekers
Created many strong speakers
Houses me when I have no place to be
She is everything to me, oh I love her
She is my mother, New York New York

2. UNDER(cov)Her

I was raised, best of both worlds
Very poor rich girl
always caught in between
I was born, In the city of dreamers
Heavy coffee drinkers, never sleepers
Just like me

I saw that death is a friend
We must say hello again and again
Build a relationship
We mustn’t fear what comes of it
Do not walk away, she has something to say
Do not walk away, she has something to say

Love her like you love your mother
Love her like you love your father
Love her like you love your only lover

She is love undercover
She is love undercover

I learned when I was seven
To find heaven in rainbow notebooks
Ivory keys
Nine eleven stole any remanence
Of childhood innocence away
I was totally clean

I saw that death is a friend
We must say hello again and again
Build a relationship
We mustn’t fear what comes of it
Do not walk away, she has something to say
Do not walk away, she has something to say

She is love under cover
Love her
Undercover
Love her
Love her undercovher

4. ONE LIFE

O man with green eyes
Why did you waste so much of my time?
No more colors left to paint
No more chances left to make it right
To make it, write

Oh man with one life
You got one life
You got one life x2

Oh man you got one time
You got one time
You got one time
To make it right, to make it, write

Oh green eyes lay your guard(en) down I saw you down there scraping fingers against mounds of dirt in the drive way
Crippled by the drugs side ways
You think you’re gonna be a baller your not a baller no baby looks like you’re a faller.
But you already knew that didn’t you.
Your think you’re gonna be a baller A ball-o big time oh your so big and you’re...

so Close
to the Earth.
Let mother nature’s breath unearth you.

Oh man with one life
You got one life
You got one life x2

Oh man you got one time
You got one time
You got one time
To make it right, to make it, write

Oh man with one life
You got one life
You got one life
Oh man with one life
You got one life one life
You only got one life
You got me

3. EGO DEATH IN A CANDY STORE

Mother Wound
27 generations, now it's up to you.
How does it feel
To have the ability to self heal?

O Elation, all the life times right now on this occasion
Realities beginning to reveal

That what you want is waiting for you
What you seek is seeking you too

I have been through the worst stages
Now Im celebrating

Im rolled in sugar like I was born in a candy store
then the war on society took the best of me
Now I'm totally free
Oh sisters I adore everything you stand for

The sweetness of life is always double the strife
open your hands for more

...More love more love ...

More love is coming to you like you asked
Relish in it bask
to not quit it
do not walk away
know, there are no mistakes
practice and all is coming

What you want is waiting for you
What you seek is seeking you too

We have lived through the dark ages
Now we're congregating

And we're filled with fury like we were born
in the middle of an ocean storm
Oh society could be so easy
its made up of you and me
of sister it's now lore the patriarchal war

The sweetness of life is always double the strife
open your hands for more

More love more love more love more love
